The importance of humorous word use

The importance of humorous word use

Large companies still need to let loose once in a while. From companies like Google and Apple, who offer small humorous index’s of information when searching for certain keywords, to companies offering small cute words for agenda descriptions. It is all relative to one thing, happiness. When you can offer some sort of break from the serious identity that you represent, you expand your demographic from a certain niche, to all of humanity. Why? Because everyone can laugh, and laughter has been proven to give some sort of happiness.

You can go a little too far with humorous content, so don’t over-do it! But, allowing people to see funny or cute words in portions of your Web site or product will ultimately seem like an “easter-egg” that he/she will want to tell his/her friends about. Thus, marketing your product even further. Should you choose your words carefully? Obviously don’t use profanity or offensive material.

Why should I do this? Case studies show that this sort of content has appeared on social networking Web sites like Digg.com and Reddit, many times also being bookmarked on Del.icio.us. Try and let loose once and a while, show your customers and visitors that you work in a fun environment, and they will see it as you enjoy your job. Anyone who enjoys their job, will obviously put more effort into their work than the man or woman who hates what they are doing.

  • What can you expect?

Typo's, grammatical errors, guess links, cuss-words, and the misuse of long words. What is that little block of color at the end of the article? Each color represents the mood. Red, is obviously angry. Yellow is enlightened. You get the picture..

    1. I thought about doing this on my personal portfolio a long time ago as a way to highlight my creativity. Somewhere along the way I forgot the idea, but thanks for the awesome reminder!
